Common Xbox repairs in Portland.

Display

HDMI Port Repair

No signal, bent pins, loose port. Xbox Series X and One HDMI port replacement is one of the most common repairs we do — and one of the most mishandled elsewhere. We solder it right the first time.

Disc Drive

Disc Drive Not Reading

Won't accept discs, spits them out, or makes grinding sounds. We replace the laser or the full drive unit depending on what's actually failed — not just what's easiest to swap.

Thermal

Overheating & Fan Issues

Loud fan, shuts off mid-game, runs dangerously hot. Dried thermal paste and clogged heatsinks are the usual culprits — especially on older Xbox Ones and launch Series X units.

Power

Won't Turn On

Dead console, no response, blinking power light. Could be the power supply, a blown fuse, or a board-level fault. We diagnose before we replace anything.

Controller

Xbox Controller Repair

Stick drift, broken bumpers, charging port, trigger issues. Xbox controller drift is one of the most common repairs we see — we replace the module entirely, not just clean it.

Liquid Damage

Water & Liquid Damage

Spilled on it or got wet. Don't turn it on — bring it in immediately. We clean the board, diagnose what failed, and repair at the component level.

Software

Error Codes & Software Issues

Error codes, update failures, won't boot past the Xbox logo. We diagnose whether it's software or a hardware fault before recommending a fix.

Power Supply

Power Supply Issues

Xbox 360 power brick problems, no power to the console, orange or red light on the brick. We test and replace power supply units and internal power boards.

Common questions.

Yes — almost always. Our Vancouver shop does Xbox Series X HDMI port repairs regularly and it costs a fraction of what a new console runs. The repair is board-level microsoldering, which we do regularly. If the board has additional damage we'll tell you upfront, but in most cases it's a straightforward fix.
If your console is still under Microsoft's warranty, use it first — we'd tell you the same thing. But most Xboxes that come to our Portland shop are out of warranty. Once Microsoft's coverage is gone, third-party repair doesn't void anything that matters.
The blinking blue light of death (BLOD) usually points to a power supply fault, a failed APU, or a corrupted storage issue. It's not always fatal — bring it in and we'll diagnose it properly before assuming the worst.
Most common repairs at our Portland SE 96th Ave shop — HDMI ports, disc drives, overheating — take 1–3 business days. More complex board-level work or jobs that need sourced parts can take 3–5 days. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we diagnose it.
Yes. The Red Ring of Death is typically caused by failed solder joints on the GPU from heat cycling over time. We reflow or reball the affected chips. It's not a guaranteed permanent fix, but it brings most Xbox 360s back to life and we'll be honest with you about the long-term outlook.
Usually yes. Bring it to our Portland shop — a grinding sound typically means the disc ejection motor or laser assembly has worn out. We diagnose which component failed and replace just that.
At our Portland SE 96th Ave location, "can't fix" is rarely the right question. It's more about whether it makes sense to fix. We're always transparent about what's wrong and what it'll cost. 90% of the time it's still cheaper to fix than replace. But if it genuinely doesn't make financial sense, we'll tell you straight and work with you to figure out the best path, whether that's a partial repair or getting you into a replacement. We never leave you without a solution.
No appointment needed — walk in to our Portland location on SE 96th Ave any day we're open. You can also start a repair request online if you'd prefer to give us the details ahead of time.
